How to Recover Lost Shares

If you have lost access to your wallet, Aktionariat provides a decentralized recovery mechanism to transfer share tokens from a lost address to a new one. Your seed phrase cannot be recovered, but your shares can be.

Before You Start

Make sure you:

Know your old wallet address (your issuer may be able to help you identify it)
Understand that each token requires a separate recovery if multiple tokens are held on the same address
Have a new wallet ready with its seed phrase securely backed up

Step 1: Contact the Issuer

Reach out to the company holding your shares and inform them that you have lost access to your wallet. The issuer will verify your identity and then contact Aktionariat. Once Aktionariat receives their confirmation, the recovery process can proceed.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet

Open the Aktionariat Portfolio App and create a new wallet. Write down and securely store your new 12-word seed phrase.

Step 3: Fund Your Wallet

You will need funds for two things: collateral and transaction fees.

Collateral

The type and value of collateral required is determined by the issuer after identity verification.

Transaction fees (ETH)

The amount of ETH needed depends on the network:

Ethereum Mainnet: Transaction Fee = Gas Price × Gas Limit
- Gas Price: measured in Gwei — check live rates on a gas tracker
- Gas Limit for declareLost: 166,461
- Example cost: ~0.007157823 ETH
- Recommendation: buy 20% more ETH than estimated to account for price fluctuations
Optimism network: Fund with approximately CHF 5 worth of ETH

Step 4: Declare the Old Address as Lost

Open the Recovery Widget at hub.aktionariat.com/recovery — a desktop browser is recommended.

4.1 — Enter the lost wallet address

Provide the address of the wallet you can no longer access.

4.2 — Select the token to recover

Choose the specific token you want to recover. Then connect your new wallet:

Open the Aktionariat Portfolio App
Go to the Connect tab
Scan the QR code shown in the Recovery Widget
Select your address and confirm

4.3 — Declare Lost

Review your claim status, select your collateral asset, and click Declare Lost.

Step 5: Claim Your Shares Back

After 6 months, return to the Recovery Widget at hub.aktionariat.com/recovery.

Enter the lost wallet address
Connect your new wallet
Click Recover Now

Make sure your new wallet holds enough ETH to pay the transaction fee.
